Twenty new paintings by Connecticut artist Jan Dilenschneider will be featured in an exhibition entitled, Eco Visions. The exhibition will be curated by Gail Ingis.

Ms. Dilenschneider’s works have been successfully featured for the last four years at the prestigious Galerie Pierre-Alain Challier in the historic Le Marais district in Paris. Ms. Dilenschneider is the only living American artist to have her work on display at the Grand Palais in Paris. In the past year, her exhibitions have been featured at the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts Sill House Gallery and at the Bellarmine Museum in Fairfield, Conn, where she broke attendance records. Each of these exhibitions were solo shows.

Calling all artists! Submit your work to Pequot Library’s 20th Annual Art Show, “The Story of Art.” Online submissions must be received by midnight on September 15, 2017 in order to be considered for entrance in this juried exhibition.
The Jurors are Adrienne Ruger Conzelman, a private art dealer and advisor, and the Director of ARC Fine Art in Fairfield and Helen Klisser During, an Art Advisor, Curator, Photojournalist, and Artistic Director Emeritus at Westport Arts Center.
The jurors are looking for a variety of artistic mediums, focusing closely on the expression, either traditional or abstract, of the story presented to viewers.

All entries must be for sale, no exceptions. Prizes will be given for first, second and third place.
The entry fee is $25 per piece for up to five entries, and is non-refundable. The entry fee for young artists (age 22 and under) is $15 per piece. Entry fee includes one ticket to the Artists and Collectors Party on October 22, 2017.
Pequot Library will notify all artists of the status of their submission by October 1, 2017. Only artwork selected for the exhibition should be dropped off to Pequot Library on October 7, 2017 and must be picked up Sunday, October 22, 2017.
Accepted artworks will be on view from October 14 – 22, 2017 in Pequot Library’s historic auditorium, which provides an outstanding backdrop for the show.

Well-published travel writer and New York University professor Dr. Rochelle Almeida presents “A Jaunt with Jane,” an audio-visual lecture reviewing the life and times of Jane Austen and the places that influenced her work. Using her own blog posts and photographs, Dr. Almeida will lead the audience on an adventure throughout England, highlighting Bath, Oxford, Hampshire, Derbyshire, Lyme Regis, and Winchester during this stunning presentation. Step up to the mounting block, your horse-drawn carriage awaits.

About the Presenter:
Born in Bombay, India, Rochelle Almeida taught at Jai Hind College, Bombay and in the graduate English Department at the University of Bombay before joining the Liberal Studies Program at NYU in 1994. She has also taught at Exeter College, University of Oxford, UK, and in the Global Liberal Studies Program at NYU-London. She was awarded the Provost’s Global Research Initiatives Fellowship at NYU-London in Fall 2016.

An active scholar, her publications include three monographs and two edited anthologies. A sixth book, an anthology of essays presented at a conference on Goa at Yale University, will be published in Fall 2017.

Award-winning Alex Beyer, 22, has received warm praise for his performances nationally and internationally. In 2016, he was the bronze medalist in the Queen Elisabeth Competition, and was named one of five finalists of the American Pianists Association Awards.Alex compress

All tickets are general admission. Doors open 30 minutes before performances begin.

In the last year, Alex Beyer has been a guest soloist with the Brussels Philharmonic, the National Orchestra of Belgium, the Royal Orchestra of Wallonia, the Harvard Radcliffe Orchestra, and the Irish National Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed with the Milwaukee, Charlotte, Hartford, New Haven, Waterbury, and Bridgeport Symphony Orchestras, among others.

He received Sixth Prize at the 2015 US Chopin Competition. He was the recipient of Third Prize, as well as the Beethoven and Irish National Symphony Orchestra special awards at the 2015 Dublin International Piano Competition. Beyer was a 2012 US Presidential Scholar in the Arts.

He has studied with Yoshie Akimoto, Matti Raekallio, and Melvin Chen. He is currently studying with Russell Sherman and Wha Kyung Byun at the New England Conservatory, and recently graduated from Harvard University with a degree in Mathematics.

In the summer months he has attended the Killington Music Festival, Vianden Music Festival in Luxembourg, the Saarburg Festival in Germany, and the Taos School of Music. In August 2015 he attended The International Holland Music Sessions; he will return to Holland in January 2017 as a part of the “New Masters on Tour” series.

He has collaborated with conductors Stephane Denève, Marin Alsop, Paul Meyer, Federico Cortese, Alan Buribayev, Grzegorz Nowak, Constantine Kitsopolous, T. Francis Wada, Carolyn Kuan, Leif Bjaland, and Gustav Meier, and has regularly performed with Nicholas Kitchen and Yeesun Kim, founding members of the Borromeo String Quartet. He has recently performed in the Palais des Beaux Arts, Flagey Studio 4, the Irish National Concert Hall, Baryshnikov Arts Center, Paul Hall, Stamford Palace Theater, Weill Recital Hall, the New World Center and Woolsey Hall. As the winner of the Harvard Radcliffe Orchestra concerto competition, he made his Sanders Theater debut in 2015, and as a winner of the NEC Piano Honors Competition he made his Jordan Hall debut in 2014.
