Records, CDs, DVDs, Audio Books and Games plus a selection of Holiday-themed books will go on sale December 2 at the Friends of the Poughkeepsie Public Library District’s Book Store at 141 Boardman Rd., Poughkeepsie. The sale will continue through and including December 30.

Records, CDs and Games will be 40 cents per item; DVDs and Audio Books will be $1 each. Holiday-Themed books will be 50 cents each.
All other of the more than 20,000 books on the store’s shelves, in a wide variety of categories, including biographies, cookbooks, religion and fine arts will be available at the regular prices of $2 or less. A selection of special books that are individually priced are also available.

Friends’ volunteers replenish the book shelves continually from the large inventory of presorted quality books that are donated by the community members and housed in the Friends’ warehouse, so the shelves are always full.

The Friends of the Poughkeepsie Public Library District is an all-volunteer organization that supports the district’s programs and services.

The Book Store is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. The Book Store is located at the Boardman Road Branch Library (entrance behind the Library on the south side), 141 Boardman Rd., Poughkeepsie. Look for the blue awning.

Well the cold air has finally arrived and with it The Annual Toys for Tots campaign around our area. We are very pleased to announce that this year The Thomas Paine Cottage Museum is an official drop off location!

Won’t you please consider a donation of an unwrapped new toy for a deserving child in our area? Toys for Tots is a wonderful organization that has been spreading joy and love to countless children since 1947 and we are proud to help this year!

We are accepting donations during business hours (Thurs. Sat. Sun. 10-5pm) starting immediately and running through Dec. 17th. Have a lot to donate or can’t make it when we’re open, contact us at painemuseum@optonline.net to arrange a time or pickup location.

ArtsALIVE! Katonah-Lewisboro’s arts booster club is extremely please to invite you to attend Encore Cabaret VI, which will take place in John Jay MIDDLE School’s theatre on the evening of Thursday, December 21 at 7:30 pm. Encore Cabaret is a musical collaboration of John Jay High School’s current performing arts students and alumni. We are very fortunate to have the alumni artistic team of musical director Andre Catrini (’07) and emcee Tomm Polos (’06) returning once again to lead the show. This year’s theme is “Broadway Through The Ages” and the show will feature an array of favorite songs from old and new Broadway musicals. All net proceeds from the show will benefit ArtsALIVE!, John Jay’s arts booster club made up of parents and students to support, promote and provide funding for enriching activities and programs, visiting artists, class trips and other arts-related activities for the students of the Katonah-Lewisboro School District.

Suggested Minimum Donations*: Students: $10; Adults: $20; Seniors $5

O’Neill known for his portrayal of Elder Cunningham in “Book of Mormon” will be the Master of Ceremonies at this years “Knight of Cabaret on December 23rd.

Co-owner Brian Harrington is not only an advocate for the foundation but also is celebrating his 5th year cancer free.

Brian’s Story: 5 Years ago at the young age of 30 years old Brian was diagnosed with testicular cancer. As you can imagine this life altering news sent a shock-wave through Brian, his newly married wife Summer and their entire family.

Brian said: “The news that I had cancer was the worst day of my life, then I was told I may not ever be able to have children”. I refused to allow cancer to dictate my future, my wife’s future, and the future lives of the children we have always dreamt of having.”

Through the endless support of family, friends, and The Sean Kimerling Foundation Brian was able to FIGHT AND SURVIVE!

Fast forward to today- Brian and Summer have been blessed with two beautiful children Autumn Olivia and Grayson Cole.
